Alexandra Duliba sets Belarus record at Boston marathon

Belarusian marathoner Alexandra Duliba was the best among European athletes at the 2014 Boston Marathon finishing 6th, BelTA has learnt.

Covering the course in 2:21.29, the Belarusian set the countrys new marathon record beating her previous record by more than two minutes (2:23.44). The event was won by Rita Jeptoo of Kenya (2:18.57). Silver went to Bizunesh Deba from Ethiopia (2:19.59), with Ethiopian Mare Dibaba in the third place (2:20.35).

Eritrean-born American Meb Keflezigli became the first home country victor on the mens side in more than three decades covering the classical 42km 195m course in 2:08.37. Kenyas Wilson Chebet clocked 2:08.48 for the second place. Frankline Chepkwony of Kenya took the third place in 2:09.50. Vitaliy Shafar of Ukraine crossed the finish line fourth clocking 2:09.38.

The 118th Boston Marathon was held with unprecedented security measures in place following the 2013 bombings at the finish line which left three people dead and hundreds injured. This year partaking in the competition were nearly 36,000 athletes from all over the world. The event drew almost a million of spectators.
